I've been listening to Carl Sagan's
Pale Blue Dot on audiobook again. The first couple of chapters are a short history lesson on the creation of the Earth, how man spread to the various continents, and the continual evolution of the way man viewes the cosmos in total. Religious implications included. :)
(give or take)
The Universe is 15,000,000,000 years old,
the Earth is 5,000,000,000 years old,
humans have been around 2,000,000 years,
we only have about 7,000 years of "recorded" history,
electricity was
discovered 250 years ago,
and I'm probably going to live about
77 years.
In the midst of all the partisan debate I hear about Social Security, I had a thought today: The reason we're having trouble with the Social Security program is because we have a larger older population. People are evolving and bending both nature and machinery to our will in order to live longer.
And that's
fucking great.
